The Brake Fluid light went off on my '95 740il, so I checked the fluid. Brake checked a bit to make sure it wasn't catastrophic, and went straight home. Fluid level is a-okay, still looking into why the light is on. But screwing the filler top back on, I noticed the supplier's name on the canister(?):

Making cars is a hard, tricky, intricate, recalcitrant, and hideously expensive process. Most of the time, car makers make the stuff themselves. But if someone else has already done the R&D on the stuff you want, and can give it to you now, and you can go to market immediately without having to wait for research and prototyping, sometimes you just kinda buy their stuff instead of making your own.
